Years later, it dawns on me....

In War of the Worlds, couldn't it just have easily been that Martians land on Earth and their microbes infect and wipe out the entire planet?  That's happened already with populations meeting.

It wouldn't be as interesting of a story though if it just Martians saying, "Well, that was easy.  We just cracked the door open to look outside, didn't even go out.  A few days later everything on the planet was dead."

Not likely. Microbial infections tend to be host specific and to have co-evolved with them The infections which devastated the populations of South America, being one classic example, didn't devastate the local wildlife - animals, insects or plants.

Martian bacteria etc would have evolved separately from humans and so, while it is possible that they would be capable of infecting us, it is unlikely in the extreme.

Over time, of course, some of them may adapt to their new home and find potential hosts, including us.

Fun with a lucid dream just now.  I "woke" up, thought I was still dream dreaming because I was still snoring, thought it felt too easy to stand up (back to reality now...).  I also thought I was still breahing/snoring with my mouse closed in the dream.  So I decided to see if my wall would pass through a wall.  It did.

Strangely enough I never noticed other rooms were completely different, despite knowing I was dreaming.

For some reason there was a mirror on a dresser.  I looked in the mirror and saw myself.  I moved to the side of that and my image was still mirroring back on the wall itself.  I was amused by that.  So was the mirror image which I was sure wasn't really me.  The mirrored image continued moving with me until it reached a shadow on the wall.  I was also amused by that.  "Oh, look at that.  My brain forgot where the mirror ends but can't figure out how to overcome a shadow."

I thought I woke up a couple times but stayed in the dream still.  And then finally actually woke up.

What's on my mind?  I've been away for a while and I'm wondering what's happened to m1469?  And all her posts have been eliminated?
Just wondering...

Imploded.  She actually went through all her posts and wiped them out like that.  Think of the time spent though... oi.  Someone else followed suit (or was a sock account).  There are several others on here I wonder about... so whoever it is may still be around.

Yes, i was wondering how she could go throughALL her posts and eliminate them. Maybe there was a short cut.  And i'm pretty sure she's still around under an alias. She LOVES Pianostreet!

No shortcut. Diva farewells take time (and effort). I'm only surprised she didn't use a video of her singing There's no Place Like Home (a la Melba or Sutherland) instead of a dot.

Nothing quite as motivating or impressive as seeing an entire group of people who are doing something you consider well out of range (or impossible) as a standard occurrence for them.

One of these nights or mornings (or days if I take a nap) there really will be an intruder when I stuck asleep.  Then... something will be sorry.

I noticed the 'waves of sleep' effect translated into the sound of a big metal bar being hit.  It's making me think that happened to be the closest thing my brain could come up.  "Don't know what this is... How about a metal bar sound?"

I was expecting to hear something about the witch sitting on my chest.

I suppose it could be worse.  It's always the "someone is approaching, someone has entered my place and is heading toward me" feel, but it's got sound.  Except for the one time I woke up and swore a door was either open or closed when it shouldn't have been.  It wasn't, but that was what I expecting to see so that's what I saw for a second.

You know that story about the daughter who starts getting baby product ads from Target and the father gets ticked off?  And then it turns out the daughter is actually pregnant?

I must be pregnant too.  Amazon is offering me a special "mom's baby list."  I had no idea.

I'm exhausted.  The weird sleep thing two night's ago.  Last night I couldn't sleep.  4 hours probably.  Then I exercised.  Bleh... I feel shakey.

Although that could morning sickness.  Haha.

I've acquired some Marmite and Vegemite.  Tried the Marmite first.  I understand what that jaguar was feeling.  I think I've had this at some point in the past.  I'd give it a 5/10, but... Then it's got a zingy kick after that.  I'm thinking 4/10.  Not bad, not great.  I don't love or hate it.  It's really salty though.  Spread thinly for sure.  Whew.... *Bob imitates the jaguar.*  Hm....  *Bob mouth waters uncontrollably.*  Maybe 3/10 now...  I think I'm not a Marmite fan.   Glad this stuff doesn't expire for another 9 months.  If I could mix it with something that would be better.  Maybe I had too much.

I DETEST it.  It's like melted down bouillon cubes.  But the English love it on their toast in the morning.  Like I love my peanut butter on toast in the morning.   Not many people understand that, either.

I have once in a while.  I think I'm aware that I'm dreaming during the dream.  I think that feels real enough.  Then I actually wake up.  It must be some part of the brain that handles motion.  It usually ends up, "Hey, I'm dreaming.  Might as well fly or something... I won't get a chance to do that after I wake up."

Just found an intriguing discussion.

"I am currently exploring feminist critiques of logic in hopes of outlining a working framework for the creation of a feminist programming language."

https://www.hastac.org/blogs/ari-schlesinger/2013/11/26/re-feminism-and-programming-languages

Many moons ago, when I first heard of this, I never suspected there might me more to it than a joke:

https://thenullhypotheses.wordpress.com/2013/12/18/a-feminist-programming-language-c/

Not so sure now.

How did logic and programming become a male-associated area?  I thought programming started out female, along the lines of secretary work.

Something that's challenging or painful is possibly an area for improvement.  As long as things don't break.  Careful work can produce an "upgrade" in that area.  It's the edge of what you can do and the point where things are starting to break down from being pushed a little too much.

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow.
