Also wondering if we've had any true mental breakdowns on here so far.  There must have been some but...

How I can practice a piece for weeks, and everything is falling into place and then the last few practices, it feels like I've taken five steps backwards. :(

I see two things, regardless of the pony backpack.
1) The principal is off on banning the backpack.  Easy solution, but off. That wasn't the issue.
2) The immediately reversed their decision when people complained or called them out for the decision. Spineless.

Although I am wondering where the boarder of the school lies.  Haha... Once that kid gets off school property I would think he's on his own.  In that case, he might decide it's better to hide it, right or wrong.  But while he's on school grounds, the school should be going after the bullies, not the target.  Then again... bully problem?  Look at the type of decisions the person in charge is making.  Leaky roof?  Just don't go in that room.  Vehicle broke down?  Don't use it.  Unless people complain, in which case, do whatever they say to do if there are enough of them or they complain loud enough.  Or if they keep complaining.

Yes, but the worst part about that is that you'd have a teenage grand at one point.

With the Malaysian missing airplane in mind, I wonder if it's actually possible for someone who's shipwrecked to actually get lost in that part of the world.  Shipwrecked or kicked off a boat, floating along on a little dingy. It doesn't sound like anyone's really paying attention to it.

I'm still surprised when a school thinks they "have jurisdiction" in a place completely outside the school.

I saw a couple interesting comments about it.

The school doesn't completely retract everything. They still say they have the right to go into a student's Facebook profile if they suspect something is wrong.  I'd think they should turn it over to the police if it's serious.  If it's breaking a school rule, so what?  School rules don't apply there, esp. if it's completely maintained outside school.

Think of that... Even here, right?  Complain about your school or teacher on here... If they find out, they'll demand your password, etc.

And the second aspect -- Students aren't allowed to complain?  It's the school controlling what the student can say in this case.  If the school doesn't like it, just go in and delete it?

I've heard about ways around this with job interviews.  Fake profiles, disable the account, change the password, etc.

One thing, beyond all other things about it, bothers me about MIDI format. There's no clavichord. There's a clavinet, but that's basically the unholy child of an electric guitar and a synthesizer. No clavichord, yet they have oodles of instruments pretty much no one uses.

What is on my mind now is how to preserve my temper through two weeks of my wife's Mozart Requiem rehearsals and performances. The Brahms Requiem was bad enough and this one seems even more of a dirge. Just load my iPad and bring headphones I suppose.

Reading.

There's no way to actually establish tonality on that thing.  The best you could do is Re-Do or Mi-Re-Do, but that's still not 'it' for tonality.

You appear to have missed the bit about it having no strings. Tonality is the least of it's issues.

Now I've read it.  Yes.  Still three keys....  You could mentally hear the pitches if you want.

I wonder if the "sculptor" knew at least a little about music since they started with C.  (Or if the sculptor is really thin.)

Kind of cool to have two of those on either side of a door. It doesn't look like a "sculpture" though to me.  More of a creation or adaptation.  This artist just shrunk the piano keyboard.  They didn't create it so much, except to create by reducing.

Grr... I hate it when I see a performance and plan on going to it months ahead of time.  Then it gets close to the performance, I try to get tickets, but can't find the event anymore.

Dang.  It must have been cancelled or the whole program changed.  I was going to hear one freaking piece live....  >:(

Dunning-Kruger effect... There's the 'teacher' side too.

Years later, it dawns on me.  It's the same thing.

Someone asks for my opinion on something I know about.  So I tell them.  Probably too much information for them though.  And then... I present the other side, some unknowns, etc.  I'm honest -- I'll say I don't know about a certain area.  But the bottom line is there's one result (or a range).  "This is what you could do, what direction you could go in, etc."  But it's their choice.

ie I'm presenting something I know, aware of my limits, and it comes off as not knowing it that well.

Contrast that with Joe-Know-Nothing who confidently tells them to do the wrong thing.

What do they do?  Go with the Know-Nothing because his idea is simple and he's confident, although wrong, or they wait and think, but give Know-Nothing a lot of weight in their decision making processing.

True. But, if you buy a box set of something on Amazon, your recommendations suddenly fill up with the individual components.

Perhaps marketing people think everything is like peanuts. If you have one, you'll need another right away.

Interesting/potentially scary.

I remember posting about food ads or something recently.  This is making a little more sense now possibly.

Last night I searched for some software. On my computer.  Did a search looking for info about it.  >>>On my computer<<<  Not online.

This morning I see an ad for that software in some side-of-the-website ads.

Coincidence?  It doesn't seem like much of a stretch for something to be searching recent search history, except it's not from visiting a website or a google search.  It's from what I typed offline on my computer.

Hm.  I suppose... The software communicated with something online that alerted ads.  That could make sense too.  It wants me to buy the next version....   Still a little disturbing.

I guess it's very possible/easy to predict things too.  Even if I wiped out temp files...  Sign into the same computer, same internet connection, same browser... Some ad company would know I signed into email and did a search on software.  Later on they could throw up a targeted ad.  Worst case for them is missing the person for the ad I guess.
