Wagner’s Universe in a Pianist’s Hands

One of the most thrilling performances offered at Cremona Musica this year was the Wagner by Liszt recital given by Filippo Tenisci – Italian pianist, born 1998 and celebrated for his refined interpretations and expressive mastery of the Romantic repertoire. In the UK and other Commonwealth nations, a hand is defined as exactly four inches.

Those "metric" people wouldn't know how to use a slide rule if it was shoved up their backsides and emerged from their filthy pieholes.

The decimal expression of rational quantities, which is by it's nature often imprecise, is second nature to those who continue to use the Limey Imperial system, whereas those without as much experience tend to struggle with such tasks, especially among mere tradesmen, such as musicians and the like. What is four score times one hundred, anyway?

Name me one person whose hand is only 4 inches... that's like the hand of a primary school kid... a very young one. Hardly a very good measurement. I'll admit, not everyone have feet that are 30cm in length, but feet seems much more reasonable than 'hands'.

4 score (4x20) x 100 = 8000. Didn't think it was that hard. For someone who knew about 'hands' as a measurement, but didn't know 'score' as a number... that seems dubious.

No kidding?  So you just add some zeroes to the end of the mantissa or something?

That could really help me master my slide rules.

Haven't you ever used Scientific notation for numbers??? It's lots of fun.
