Piano Street Magazine:
Wagner’s Universe in a Pianist’s Hands

One of the most thrilling performances offered at Cremona Musica this year was the Wagner by Liszt recital given by Filippo Tenisci – Italian pianist, born 1998 and celebrated for his refined interpretations and expressive mastery of the Romantic repertoire. After his recital we got the chance talking to Tenici about his Wagner/Liszt project. Read more

I must admit - I didn't know there was a 45 calibre Desert Eagle...

You learn something new every day.    ;D

Probably is....that company makes lots of different models besides that stupid 0.50 calibre thing.

I wouldn't know.

What is that the S&W model 29?

No, my next piece is either 45ACP or 357Mag in revolver.

I can't carry that revolver around town.

Model 19? Whatever,19 or 29, can't remember.

They still make that model, though, IIRC....but I'm not carrying that around town in a shoulder rig!

It's almost a thing of beauty.

Sure. Almost.

I use a 1911 in doublestack as my main stick.

Almost impossible to carry concealed, but the Rock TAC Ultra FS in 9mm is just beautiful, even against higher end pistols.

Works good.  Feels good. Tastes good.  Is good.

Out on town?  Occasionally the MAX-9.  At home?  Shotgun by the keyboards.

No, not afraid of anything....except half the US population....but it's fun to carry.

Yes, I'm licensed by the state, and it makes my micropenis feel more equine.

According to a site, there have been 128 Mass shootings in America since the start of the year... that's MORE than 1 a day, where at least 4 people have been shot. I remember the good old days where it seemed to at WORST be once a year... like the Columbine Massacre.

I don't know how Americans go outside without worrying to death about being shot about some nutjob on the street. You go to the shops to get groceries... you could get shot.

You drop your kid off at school... they could get shot.

You go to church to pray to god... your whole family could get shot.

I mean... knowing that guns are so rampant in America must be terrifying. You say to yourself - I have a gun so I can defend myself if attacked, but the sane people only reach for a gun after the mayhem has already begun.

You got a pretty mouth, boy.

You ever thought about playing the Melodica?

Yep.  Think about it.

What on Earth gave you that idea???

Because you sound like a sissy mary who has no solutions, but only can cite problems....and yet apparently has all the possibly spurious numbers.

If you hate places where licensed individuals are allowed to be at parity with the heavily militarized police or other paramilitary goons from another federal agency, that's your choice, and I wish you well.  I truly do.

I don't believe in a multi-tiered system where ill-trained police are allowed to run ripshod over their fellow civilians, nor do I believe that a military presence within the country is acceptable, when they are granted domestic rights to secure and interrogate suspected criminals.  I also am not much in favor of illegally carrying firearms of any sort, whether by police or criminals.  Cite?  ICE.  Cite if further needed?  Military adventurism on the part of the US Military joint forces.

So, it's great you have your utopian continent, but in this country, the U.S., the police are not obliged to respond to any violent encounter.  I fully expect to never fire a weapon in the line of duty (which is, for those hard of knowing, a citizen...interpret "duty" how one wishes, but I consider it a duty to protect my life and those near me, when I'm able to legally) for the rest of my days.

Nope - don't like the sound of it.

It is the instrument of kings!  Or of queens, or something.

Yeah, I hate that *** instrument....it is...queer...as hell.

Some people made some good music on it, I guess, but it's just a novelty toy to me.  No, I don't own one and do not wish to ever.

Hey Mr. Pitch:  you going to tell me this is easy to remember?  No, it's not that difficult a tune, but I find it a muthah to remember beyond the first and second strains (I think the first is in F, then move to Db with the top parts voiced in fourths....then I can't remember.

Well, we can't all be Marc-André.  His articulation and sprezzatura is nonpareil, for just a little encore piece of his.

His time is not rock steady — he rushes a bit ahead of the original beat he established when he gets excited as the piece goes on, I suppose — but I forgive him.

It depends again on how people memorise. Some people learn by rote physical memory, so they need to really perfect it muscularly if performing... sometimes a good sneeze can send them into a memory tailspin.

For me however it's just sound. The LH is a fairly simple pattern of vamping - lots of octaves and chords, so then you're just mainly focusing on the RH.

Some very interesting harmonies and chords however do make it very interesting and very quirky.

The only piece I was aware of by him was Dizzy Fingers, as it's in the Grade 6 AMEB book. Lots of fun for young piano players in High school (Primary if they're talented).

Yeah it's one of the more progressive "novelty tunes," harmonically, from that era.  That I know of, anyway.

It's about like learning a Webern tune, for me.  The first two "strains" or A and B sections are easy to remember, and easy to play.

Of course you're right that LH is generally trivial....just plug away at it on autopilot, more or less.  But those solo breaks getting into an almost atonal thing are a praegnant dog to remember!

Might as well be like Schönberg's Gigue or something at that point....I need the sheet music in front of me, or just make something up ad hoc for that one....besides...who the hell would know the difference?  It's really just an auditory effect or impression upon the audience.

No, I  have neither played nor thought of this tune in decades, but somebody elsewhere reminded me of this vile Irish whiskey called "Hell-Cat Maggie," the other day so I tried to remember what I could of this tune.

Do NOT drink this whiskey.  It is horrid.  The people who sell it should be arrested and waterboarded or something.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Zez Confrey's publishers just wrote out something for the copyright for those atonal bits and the intention was just for the performer to make something up ad lib......I mean, why not?  The "meat" of the tune is, as you say, very simple...and for the solo breaks, all one needs is a starting note, and an ending note, and just some simple pattern to follow.

Child's play, really.

Haven't heard of "Dizzy Fingers"....didn't even know Zez Confrey did anything else....well...maybe I'll check it out but I've got a lot of stuff on my Manhasset music stand, and still want to get down all of the Bill Bolcolm rags....especially "Seabiscuit," which I never learned properly....I think I only ever did Bill's *Graceful Ghost* rag as a kid, but I should do them all just for fun.

Obviously, not difficult technically, but it's fun for a little divertimento.

Plus my foot needs a workout on the Hammond organ too...but I am not lying, everything Bach wrote for keyboard or anything else can be played on the Hammond and it sounds phat, yo.

You have me intrigued funnily enough. I've only ever tasted one whisky that I HAD to pour down the drain. It didn't even mix well with Coke or Ginger Beer.

The piss poor whiskys are of course the ones you put in Hot Toddy's or mix with soft drinks. I have never dared do that with my Johnnie Walker Blue.

I have never dared do that with my Johnnie Walker Blue.

You and your damned Johnnie Blue!

We get it!

It's smooth!  It's expensive!  It's effing Paris Hilton in a bottle!  It's like school in summer:  no class and nothing going on, AFAIC.

Am I the only person who wants some character to a whisky or a whiskey, something that bites back?

You sound like a Japanese businessman or a club DJ or something!  "It is so smoove, this whisky!"

But no, do not drink the Hell-Cat Maggie....I know someone who actually does drink that, but I think she mixes it with something....I only drink whiskey neat, and it is only tolerable that way for like one bottle and because the label's pretty cool.

Ahh what do you call a person who thinks the topic of themselves is super interesting?

You can call that person me, but then again I'm a raging egomaniac if not an outright narcissist.

Okay - you lost me at Paris Hilton... of ALL the people you could have chosen... you chose HER?!?

Ana de Armas... now that's a classy gal. That's a blue label whisky.

Whatever you say, chief.

"Paris Hilton"?  That dumb broad who had some TV show or something?  Yes, that was exactly my point:  "most disgusting woman you've ever heard of?"  Survey of one hundred says that's the number one heard of.

Dude, I wouldn't do her with your dick, since this a wholesome environment.

If Jessica Alba wouldn't eat it, I wouldn't either.  That's a nice gal in my book.  And she's getting older so there might be a chance.

But too strong for your little Johnnie Blue!

OK....fine....Taylor Swift.....she's always wearing that hideous clown makeup red lipstick.

Nobody drinks Johnnie Red....that's good for like cleaning a toilet or something.  I guess one *could* mix it with something for a cocktail, but that's not how I drink whiskies.

And the KC Chiefs suck arse as a football team...no, not as in the British term "soccer" football, but American rules football.

Happy now?

LOL.

All right, you might have finally convinced me with your repeated nattering on about Johnnie Blue to pick up a bottle.

I mean how much could one bottle cost anyway?  Like two bananas?  Or a Star War or something?

Oh, no way!

That price too beaucoup!  Sounds like something a "classy" businessman would buy just for fun and who thinks "smooth" is the desideratum for anything.

I'll stick to Laphroaig, and maybe spring for the Laphroaig 15....or else just some more Green Spot.  For that price....I could buy like a third of a clavichord almost for what Johnnie Blue costs.....or like ten minutes of a pretty nice woman!  Or a bottle of Yellow Spot is about that same and has the virtue of not being British.

You should spoil yourself - it's good stuff... plus I'm pretty sure the Laghroaig 15 year old whisky is probably more expensive than the Blue label Johnnie.

Good stuff.

I'm sure it's fine.  I'd rather just economize with a Yellow Spot or even one of the Redbreasts (the latter are too smooth and unremarkable for my tastes, and, yes, I've tried all their expressions).

Anyway, once I uncork a bottle, it tends to evaporate into my gullet in one sitting, or maybe two, which latter is the case for some of the heavier Islays that take some dogged determination when drinking.

Besides, that way I'm not putting money in the former Prince Andrew's leprous hairy little hands, even if indirectly.

Is there such a thing as too smooth though in terms of whisky? Wouldn't that just make it all the better?

Or do you just prefer whiskies with a little more peat and graveliness to the taste - one that slightly alights the taste buds... like turpentine does.

Yep.

Yep.

A good whiskey or whisky should challenge one a bit, in my view.

Merely "smooth" just doesn't do it, IMHO.

Sounds like something a Japanese businessman or a club DJ who didn't know any better would seek out.

De gustibus, you know.  Just how I like it.

Hey, Paul Hogan just called and said he wants his review back!

Ladies and gentlemen:  the great, the renowned Paul Hogan.  The most famous Australian who ever lived.

That's right, people!  Yes, you heard it here first!  The most famous and the most accomplished Australian who ever lived, except for that guy who choked on his own vomit and that other guy who "accidentally" choked himself to death with a belt, some kind of pop singer or something, like am so sure.
