What?

Bet you bogan Strine speaking blokes wouldn't even know what hit you.

Except maybe a kangaroo or some other bit of autochthonous wildlife.

Silence you fools.  It took me five seconds to bound to my feet unsassisted by my arms from a prone position on the floor.

Don't make me do it again:  I'm still gasping for air and I wish I never attempted such a feat again.  Not so young as I used to be.

You realise that kangaroo's don't just wander the suburban streets of Perth like cats would... To hit one you really need to drive into the outback; and even then - you do NOT want one of them to hit you. If you accidentally hit a full size kangaroo - that will MESS your car up to the point of being almost unrecognisable.

Silence you fools.  It took me five seconds to bound to my feet unsassisted by my arms from a prone position on the floor.

Don't worry - after all, we're all getting older at the same rate.

I haven't seen that movie... I really should check some of the classic movies of all time. I did watch the original 'The Crow' movie as well as the new version that released last year. No matter how much CGI you throw at a movie these days, it doesn't replace the need for a fantastically written script.

I think Disney are finding this out with all their remakes. Next one on the list is Moana... not sure how that's going to go with audiences.

Ahhh... it was nice to talk to an intelligent person on this forum. Until we speak again, I wish you a good day/afternoon/evening/night/morning/whatever the hell it is in your region when you read this.

How intelligent does one have to be to be a piano teacher? It must be like rocket science level.

OK, that's kind of funny.

It is true, actually:  musicians and top chess players do have a (self-proclaimed, and somewhat culturally approbated) reputation of being kind of dumb....which makes some sense.  All of their trade depends on pattern recognition, and in the case of musicians, some amount of athletic prowess.

Actual musicologists and theorists might get a pass for intellectualism and general smarts....depending on their research as reflected in their publications (not including their doctoral dissertation moldering in the basement of some university library's stacks, unless it were published by a firm of reputation, and including their Habilitationschrift as well, in countries where that is required as well).

But I don't know anything about that.  I'm just drinking a well-deserved beer or eight and reading a book about beavers.

I haven't seen that movie... I really should check some of the classic movies of all time. I did watch the original 'The Crow' movie as well as the new version that released last year.

Well, you might, for the sake of cultural awareness.

No one would call Gone in 60 Seconds a "classic":  it's an awful movie made as a pet project by a stunt driver, using like all his family and friends as cast and crew.

However, half the movie is that one very long car "chase," so it's very well known among enthusiasts of car chase movies.  Far and away the best car chase movie ever made, however much people make of Bullitt and The French Connection and White Lightning and all those, which drew more people to the theaters because of distribution and because Gone in 60 Seconds is at times unwatchably bad outside of anything to do with cars.

They remade it with that Nic Cage fellow and uh....Angelina Jolie....that was stupid, so don't see that one unless you get your nickel back from the arcades.

The Crow.  Yeah, I think a few years ago I was finally wondering what everybody was all excited about and saw it.  I cannot remember one thing about the movie.  Some dude in eye makeup, and I think there was a chick in it, and they did stuff, or something.  No idea.

They call those chess super grandmasters genius and I can understand that, the way they think is at a genius level of efficiency and clarity. Beyond the game though some would be homeless, I guess you can say that about many intellectuals out there.

I'm a little more impressed by these folk though researchers are often highly arrogant and guarded, you feel like slapping a lot of them.

But I don't know anything about that.  I'm just drinking a well-deserved beer or eight and reading a book about beavers.
Hopefully that book is with lots of pictures.

I have seen the one from 2000, in fact - it was up until yesterday that I found out it was a remake of an older movie.

For 1994, it was quite a dark but well made movie I thought. The storyline was a little macabre - man waking up from the dead, avenging those who killed him with the help of a supernatural crow.

Such a shame that Brandon Lee died during filming.

Yeah, because his father had such a long and prolific career in film, is what brings poignancy to the game.

It's not unusual for some actors to be great at their skill, despite their fathers being in the business as well.

John David Washington is making his name as a major actor. You ever see Tenet?

Video games are going the same way as well and in some cases it's destroying lives - those game companies who were forced to put propaganda into their games because the higher ups told them to, and then when the game bombs and reviews poorly - the game company shuts down and people lose their jobs.
Both helldiverfszx 2 and Hollow Knight Silksong are some of the most popular games ever made and the companies that made them arent close to shutting donw.

True - Helldivers has done well with themselves. They haven't fallen prey to the typical mistakes that other Online multiplayer games have made... but surely you've heard of Sony, Microsoft and even Epic closing down major studios in the last 6-12 months... an almost bizarre amount of them - especially after Microsoft purchased a whole bunch of them and then seemingly started closing some of them down.

tf does this have to do with anything

Let's be honest - this is a thread to talk about anything. Go with the flow.

Is that the one the Batman guy did?

Yeah, pretty sure.  Well, might have seen it, or might have hurled the television viewing screen out of the window, infuriated at the incompetent sound design.

Colin Hanks was amazing in Nobody 2.

And Kiefer Sutherland is every bit the thespian as his elderly father was.

The real question is why do A-list Hollywood actors name their kids such stupid names?

Christ, the fookin' Pope's name is "Bob"....not some fey little bauble of a name.

Yes... that one movie where they had a black Batman...

Actually, that wouldn't be bad... in fact, we need to see that. I would love to see some black comedian or comedy actor playing the role of Batman - that would be EPIC!!!

Yeah, pretty sure.  Well, might have seen it, or might have hurled the television viewing screen out of the window, infuriated at the incompetent sound design.

Yeah, but Elon Musk is mentally retarded.

What does Romulus have to do with Space Trekking?  Ever heard of Livy's Ab Urbe Condita and the mythology of the founding of Rome?

Obviously, some defective retard like Musk doesn't know anything about Western civilization, but it's a reasonable name.

Only if he named one other of his spawn Remus, however.

I dunno.  Lady from Shanghai?  Orson was not all that great an actor, not even in his chef d'œuvre Kane but his cast and crew sold it for me.  Everett Sloane and the whole gang.

Not a great film, but it amuses me...mostly for the great deal of depth those veteran character actors broughy to life, as well as for the lines that were presumably written down at some point.  Or perhaps developed on a soundstage....I wouldn't know, but let's just say that one, for the sheer fun of it.

Or, if I felt like being a dick, I'd just say I'm actually one of those people who does think that Citizen Kane is actually a perfect movie in all aspects.  But I've seen it so many hundreds of times that I very rarely rewatch that one again.  But that is true, for me:  it's a banger of a flick, so if hold a handgun to my head and I'd probably go with *Kane*.

There are so many great movies out there that it's a Sophie's Choice kind of thing....just depends upon my mood on any given Sunday.

Yes, there is a newer Irish whiskey by the name of Slane that I quite enjoy, but no relation between the actor and the alcohol (which is actually fairly rough, similar to Paddy's or a Jameson Black, but it suits me as a regular, inexpensive liquor....no, I don't "smooth" is the way I want any whiskey or whisky:  I want those flavor points to bite back.).

You?

All sexual innuendos aside...

A what now?  I'd not know anything about that.  It was probably other kids.

A lot of people seem to like Citizen Kane as one of their all time favourites, so there's nothing 'dicky' about it. For me, I personally think The Shawshank redemption is a brilliantly written masterpiece: the need for someone to try and retain their humanity, even in the worst of settings... that clinging to hope.

I just recently discovered that Glenlivet is actually Scotland's oldest whisky manufacturer and distillery.

I'm less than 4 years away from paying off my house, so when I do - I'll be able to indulge in some of the finer things in life - whisky included.

Get a room you flamers!

Wouldn't you say that The Godfather insists upon itself?

Also, Touch of Evil is the worst best movie.  Remarkable but impotent.

That concludes my hot take for the day.

People say that...it's a fine movie, is all I can say about it.  But the sight of Tim Robbins makes me angry and want to punch him in his face repeatedly.

I'm still ignoring him... and the only way I inevitably have to see his rantings is when you quote him.

I will admit, I watch the Godfather when I was barely in my 20's and at the time (mind you, a lot younger) thought it was an overhyped piece of trash. Clearly I need to watch it again now that I am a lot more mature.

I'm the same for anyone who starred in 'Dude, where's my car'. Ashton Kutcher and that other guy can't act for sh*t.

And now you understand when I say kids are inherently stupid and cannot hold valid opinions.

I used to think foolish things as well at that age.

I can't get any room, you and PP have booked them all out with your movie geek conference lol.

Yes it insists indeed. It insists all the time, in fact the movie is known to insist, the director said he wants it to insist and I think it insisted that it is insisting.

Oh no my world has collapsed lol. Wait i need pps attention my whole world revolves around it. 😆

Oh, you've become Xian!

Very good!  I see my efforts have been effective!

The tomb is empty, therefore rejoice!

And yes, my confirmation name in the Catholic church is Ignatius, but I go by the nickname "Nacho," so drink it in, amigo!   ;D

Don't be silly - I've become a person who enjoys a long weekend. How many 4 day weekends to you get in a year... probably only this one, so make the most of it.

I didn't get any special days off!  In fact, I just got back from my straight job right now.   Those a-holes didn't even give us Good Friday off, which was totally uncool.  Should have had Maundy Thursday off as well.

But anyway, I take four day weekends whenever the hell I want!  I skipped work R, F, Sat this week just because I want to kill my boss.

Anyway, to make the most of Easter, one should butcher, cook, and eat either a lamb or a rabbit, or both.

You've got seven weeks in the liturgical season of Easter to think about it!

Damn... and here I thought Good Friday was almost a worldwide public holiday (well, at least over 100 countries) it is recognised as a public holiday.

Here in Australia, usually to make the most of Easter you have to consume an inordinate amount of beer, wine, spirits or a mixture of all 3.

Well, it is a feast day, coming on the heels of Advent (traditionally a time of sober reflection, fasting, and all that jazz) and the prior decadence of Mardi Gras/Carnival.

I don't think you're really supposed to get crunk on Holy Friday or at all during the triduum leading up to Easter, but I won't tell if you won't.

In fact, I should think a good number of priests would think the coming seven weeks of Easter is the ultimate time to go on an epic bender.....you know, cause like the tomb is empty and shtuff and all that.

Those would be some Catholic priests, no doubt....my own denomination, even though I'm not a man of faith....many of them do not have much an issue with pulling a cork from some decent Irish whiskey.....in moderation, of course!   8)

Tcheh.  Where's the part where you take a picture of you cutting off the head of the Easter Bunny and show it to small children?

Or make them eat turds and claim that they are chocolate delivered by a mythical beast?

That's supposed to be half the fun.

First of all - the amount of people who rush to their local liquor store on Thursday to stock up is shocking. Clearly they are purchasing for their need to consume on the Friday, otherwise they would have waited till Saturday to get their drinks.

Secondly, the tradition is to BITE the head of the Easter Bunny, but a chocolate one for goodness sake. It's very hard to get a real bunny, dress him up in small clothing and decapitate it while he's in your grasp.

Who said anything about clothing?

Rabbits aren't difficult to trap, anyway.  Jackelopes are far more wiley, but much more elusive.

Snap their neck, or just shoot them, and then cut their heads off with a nice sharp Chinese-style chef's knife.

The kids love it.

Have you EVER seen a picture of the Easter Bunny without clothes???

Okay - apart from this one:

That is just... horrifying. Or maybe that's just the Temu version of this:

Surprisingly, both advertised as Easter Bunny suits.
