This is two person job. Your friend plays the offending note and you put your ear close to the source.

I just found the source...it's the silent box under the keyboard. Noise stops when I hold it. Need to tighten some screws...

Just being amused that a "silent box" is the source of unwanted noise.  ;D

Also amusing... Reading a post on here, feeling just a twinge of insultedness for some reason (Why is this person referring to me?  How dare they...)   Then realizing I wrote that post.

Amazon's audio clip samples.

I'm listening to some.  They've got these random "slices" of noise injected into them I think.  Really annoying sound, but quick.  I don't know why anyone would bother trying to 'steal' their audio clips, but this method seems effective.  Really annoying too.  It's like a quick 'fingernails on chalkboard' effect.

The downside is I'm training myself to be annoyed by the CD now.  I'm cringing while I'm listening to it.  Slow, melodic music.... Wait, wait... It's going to happen, don't relax... asdkfaksdf;kj!!!!!...  There it is.  I knew it....   Wait for another one....

Some white noise would be ok.  This is just annoying.

Nothing really seems to beat scheduling things by time.

You can always break projects down to smaller pieces.

You can always schedule more time.

Problems are too much work, too little time.  But those can't be overcome.  The only answer to schedule things out.  Or work more, work harder, but with scheduling that could be lessened.  If there's no deadline it can all be scheduled and worked out eventually.

Good idea! On huge public projects that's how we do it. The trick is to keep the project going in spite of supply glitches. Always have another track available to put the crew on.

Wow....  I've been here almost ten years.

Almost ten years ago I sent myself an email.  I doubt the email will come through, but I'm on the other freaking side of that timeline now.  Dang.... I emailed myself what my current situation was, what I was thinking, and I was wondering what the next ten years would be.  Now I know.  Kind of disappointing too.  I wouldn't having skipped it.

Along the scheduling idea again...

One of the biggest hurdles is just getting started.

And it's surprising how much you can get done in five minutes. And then you want/need to do more....  I remember a presentation by a pianist who said he got a lot of practicing done in five minute sessions throughout the day.  Lots of five minutes timeslots available.

And I remember a TED talk recently that mentioned just doing some small part of the project if the whole thing can't be done.  Similar idea.

Watching the news.....

Blah, blah, blah... Yacht race... Most advanced yacht, very fast....

Cost....?

100......    I'm thinking $100,000.  And wow it's that expensive.  $100,000 for a flat little boat.

What it actually cost?  $100,000,000.   100 million dollars.  For a boat.

I've entered the 'need for solitude' phase in my adolescence and am choosing to sit alone in a nice shaded spot at lunch at school. I've began to meet the first of the hordes of people who feel the need to ask me if I'm okay. No, I do not want to become your "friend". No, I do not want to 'come over and sit by you sometime'. No, my life is not unhappy.

I apologize for what I am about to do, but I feel the need to do so.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, IS IT A CRIME TO NOT WANT TO SPEND EVERY WAKING SECOND OF MY DAY IN THE PRESENCE OF OTHER PEOPLE?

Jeez, I mean, I have friends and all..Why are people so quickly judgmental?

You are not alone is this desire to have some time alone. Demand it because people will not leave you be out of their need to make contact. You need that time to recharge.

I actually had a dream about someone on here.  In the dream I either saw the real person online (on their website or youtube videos) or met them live in the dream.  Then it dawned on me that the person I saw was actually So-and-So from PianoStreet.  I noticed something in the background of the real person video was the same as pics on here.

Just out of the blue.  I have no idea where that dream came from.

Hey Bob, your quote is not grammatically correct. You're mixing expressions. A sort of "Franglais" approach. Is that hip somewhere?

*friend listening in on my piano practice because I left a Skype call on*

"You suck."

And me in response (more or less), "No, any musical opinion you could possibly have is invalid because you don't even play an instrument."

Apparently anything deviating from the kitschy pop piano music they hold as their standard for "good piano music" is bad. Learn to tolerate dissonance, fool. I was only practicing Chopin's 10/3; how bad could it be?

Okay, maybe I'm a pretty bad pianist in general, but I wonder if non-musicians can actually tell between good and bad performances.

No they can't. All you need to is listen to "featured" pop performances on major shows eg., Leno, Fallon, SNL. 80% stink. Guitars out of tume, drummers hitting the heads with a stroke from behind their own head and less we forget half the guest band went "upside down" on a recent Leno show! (1+3, 2+4 reversed.)

If it's anything like my practicing, the depths of awfulness can be pretty low indeed.

I disagree.  Anyone can have some idea about the quality of music.  You don't have to be able to do something to know if it seems 'good' to you or not.

Non-musicians can tell.  They don't know how to describe it.  They don't know the terminology.  There are things they'll focus on more that trained musicians wouldn't and vice-versa.

Now you're branching out into how music communicates with the general public. We know it's true that certain chords in certain inversions evoke pleasant feelings. For example, I would never play Stravinsky's harmonization of the Doxology in  church, even though musicians think it is just great. The general public likes harmonizations in root and fifth inversions, like country music, rock and roll, and hymns.

Most people can tell if the rhythm is steady, if things are in tune, etc.  Or if a performance is mechanical or shaped.

It's said that if a Pianist  woman ever kissed a Bassist, she would become a fairy and he a stone. On an unrelated note, it's been chronicled that over several hundred Gossip Stones exist all across the country. Fairies are nearly uncountable in number.

I thought there was a big issue about women having eating disorders...  Wouldn't you think there would be lots of women walking around looking like skeletons?  Eating disorder, a little messed up mentally, not eating... Skeleton look.  Maybe they don't survive into adulthood and we don't hear about it.  Or, maybe they get a reverse on that eating disorder.  I'm just noticing if there's a big eating disorder crisis going on, I'm seeing the opposite in real life.  Overcompensating for anorexia maybe.
