I got married on the 4th of may. The force was with me.



My bride had secretly written/rehearsed a song with the guitarist from the band. She dragged me out in front of everyone during her speech and sang to me.. which in turn made me cry in front of everyone (in a good way)..

Its not so bad really. Heaps of people cried at our wedding.. must have been a truly horrible experience for them.

I recorded my own arrangement of the pachelbel canon for the bridal procession, which was announced as being my playing by the celebrant at the start of the ceremony - so I think 95% of the female guests were a bit teary from the very start.

It did me over to..  Bel insisted that we time everything out, and build the music up as each bridesmaid came in..  so the music climaxed perfectly as she entered the chapel, with a bit of an extended dominant 7 build up just before, then there was like a suspended kind of plagal cadence to finish right as she got to be in front of me...  at least I think the ending worked out properly - Its a bit of a mental blank for me to be honest..  it worked at the rehearsal.

Our photographer was a freaking boss. She's like the yuja wang of wedding photography or something, has international awards and such..    it was seriously fun doing the photos, can't wait to see them in a couple of weeks, that's the only one we have seen so far.

Can't say I can give any concrete and specific advice on mazeppa off the top of my head, strikes me as being something that I'm not ready personally anyway in that I plan to thoroughly finish a near complete portion of fred before I tackle franz, atleast so far as etudes...  and when the time comes, mazeppa will not be first on the liszt. Ha.

 I unfortunately have decided against doing all the chopin etudes for right now (5 or 6 is enough). Maybe later, though. I don't particularly care to have a composer's set of etudes right now, but I would like to work 5 or so from each romantic and post romantic composer. Then I can move to the crazy scriabin sonatas I do not feel like struggling with right now.... :I no rush, though.

No.  ms left hand.  Then the next two groups md right hand.  
But the fingering would suggest alternating right and left hand.  Which is how it's usually done, i guess.  I've never played mazeppa.  Too hard.

That 42 24 42 fingering was dictated by Liszt himself as part of the etude, the purpose being to more accurately mimic a galloping horse. Mess with it at your own peril.

Just looking at it superficially,  i would do lh 42-31, then rh 31-42 31-42.  But making it sound like 42-42 alternating hands. If you get what i mean.

I know the hands alternate those times. I mean that the fingers still alternate in each hand instead of repeating in each hand then switching hands, each step. so it sounds like they are switching. I cut the loss in having to alternate hands in half by using fingering in separate hands...

Did you know that in the (very) old days pianists usually included singers in their recitals between the piano pieces? You should get a diva of your own to draw crowd

Its not too bad if you find a tempo that you can make the jump and go a little faster to practice not looking for it nut just going for it. Also I forgot what mu teacher told me. Never practice this stuff full volume. It is waaay easier to play faster and do the jumps if you practice quietly and lightly!

If the goal is to simulate a galloping horse then they shouldn't be perfectly even. A gallop is not a gait, it's just a natural run which will be uneven.

You bring up a point that maybe we should explore. I think those Italian words were used before there were metronomes. I'm of the opinion that the vocabulary is relative within itself. Dynamics, speed and programmatic instructions should be interpreted in comparison to the other words on the same subject.
