The final answer to learning finger technique?  ;D

No. Looks more like imitation of Artur Rubinstein - de Falla Ritual Fire Dance. ;)

The Italian Justice system comes to mind with their medieval  concept of guilty until the accused proves themselves innocent. Then even of you do win they will still come after you again. So when does this stop? How many times must you prove yourself innocent?

It is the same in Mexico.

I imagine you're talking about amanda knox.  Yes, the judicial system here is quite barbaric.  Along with the entire political scene.  You can't imagine how frustrating it is to live here...

One time in highschool I accompanied a girl singing at some school talent show. I had the sheets for the song all laid out in front of me on the piano then during the performance they all started falling onto my hands.

I was totally oblivious to any reaction to this, but apparently the audience was way more engaged with watching me trying to get them sorted out (while still playing) than they were listening to her sing.. and she wasn't overly impressed about that.

I thought it was Lent. Haha.  I amused by this thought.

What am I giving up for Lent?  Hope.

I was thinking of planning that one out for this talent show.

The person I'm accompanying isn't a bad singer, so she's gonna be a problem.

So...

The score sitting nicely on the stand.

It would be a shame if...

They fell off.

this is even better:
Dvorak zigeunelieder.  Rehearsals great.  Wonderful singer.  Concert going great.  Until...last page missing from my photocopy edition.  Try improvising with  dvorak in front of a 500+ audience with a diva trying to follow you.  Not nice.

The old thread digging made me think of how I ended up here...and how I ended up with playing the piano...

I was not even playing the piano, just suddenly got hooked on piano music and when googling some less known composers I ended up here. I think it was Thal's posts on some obscure romantic piano concertos... And only after reading about other late bloomers the thought that I could actually learn to play came to my mind, since I happened to have an old digital in the basement. So basically it is all Thal's fault. The amount of time, money and frustration he has cost me is enourmous  >:(

On the other hand, knowing him he couldn't care less  ;D

..I guess that's kind of hard to fathom as someone at the ripe old age of 24.

Lol  thats great - how about this one..

Pianist in a theater production of "oliver". During the song "consider yourself", the soloist playing the part of "dodger" skips an entire verse. Orchestra falls to pieces, scrambling through pages trying to find where the cast is now up to in the song..  I'm left exposed as the only musician who kept up because I wasn't reading the score anyway.. this goes on for about a minute before the conductor figures it out and yells out a page number..

Indeed, I also agree with both of you.  When I was there a friend of mine got sucked up into the Banco Ambrosiano affair simply because he took a guy in as a paid roommate. That took five years to clear and he still has a cloud over his head.

Remember, Italy is a very young country with a younger democracy. The theater played out in parliament  and at the ballot box is normal as they struggle giving a voice to the people and maintaining order. Having a medieval justice system doesn't help.

I remember a long time ago running across a website where some guy connected up various electric devices in his house and anyone could stop by the website and turn those devices on or off.   Yes, interesting for ten seconds, if that was you powering the lamp on and off.

I was thinking it would be a little more interesting if an acoustic piano with a virtual/piano roll operation part were set up.  Same idea.  People on the internet could plunk down keys on a real piano somewhere.

That wouldn't be very hard to do. Some of the basics are already in place, ipads with virtual keyboards (like garage band) and midi controllers. As far as pushing down the keys we could use an electro-pheumantic  system or just use a digital..

We might even get something good like recording rehearsals/jams (how the Rolling Stones composed new tunes).

I didn't hunt for closer shots, but that didn't look like the worst thing I'd ever seen.  There's worse on the internet.

On my mind...

Well people actually die when playing sports, so I guess those are the worst injuries of them all.

Hm.  Let me think...

The worst one was probably a guy diving off a second floor in some Latin country.  He landed head first part on the walk way and part in the water he was aiming for.  They got him out of the water.  The next scene you see is him in the hospital with his head literally split open, eyes going around... Then you realize those are his teeth sticking out in the middle and that sound is him trying to breath.  Then the nurse tries to press the two halves of his head back in place.  That was a bit disturbing.

A cow with its mouth part ripped off by a train.  The cow's just standing like there nothing unusual has happened, dripping blood.

Some guy in India or Asia literally in half after getting hit by a car or something.  He doesn't seem to really realize what's happened.

Some guy in a third world country who got his hand caught in a machine.  His hand now looks like spaghetti/hamburger.  Literally.

The pus ones.  Those are just gross.

The Russians who have been on drugs and had their bodies rot from the inside.  Lady crying as the "doctor" uses a hack saw to cut off the dead bone she has for an arm.

Someone shooting a video just after a lady hit a bicyclist.  She's going nuts. People are trying to talk to the person who is now entwined under the car. Then the fire department comes out and lifts the car.  Then the car suddenly drops down when their jack breaks.

The helmet cam of one of those dare devils either doing those flying squirrel jumps or mountain climbing.  Flying squirrel I think.  He gets too close and hits the mountain.  Then you hear and somewhat see him tumbling down the mountain, along with him at the bottom gasping for breath.

I think there was one like the split head cliff diver.  Suicide person in the hospital.  Face blown off but they're on the table still gasping for breath, gurgling air.

Gross.  Disturbing.  I had more free time on my hands at that time.  Not too difficult to find either.  I just googled searching fore more video collections sites like the viral video collections and ran across it.  Stuff that happens but you don't hear about.

Car of teenagers trying to beat a train.  They don't.

Real though.  A different look at the world.  Video clips like that that you can't stop watching because it's so unusual but also real.

After that, the clip from tv is from across the other side of the arena.  The clip I saw didn't show anything up close.  Healthy person.  Random event.  Nothing really evil.  He'll live.  He'll recover.  It's not that bad, or not as bad as it could be.

Just carnage.  They hyped it up on tv like it was the worst thing the world.  Cringe-worthy, yes.  There are a ton of videos on viral collection sites of idiots doing similar things -- going over the handle bars on a bike, bending body parts the wrong way, etc.  Lots of face plants.  Haha... Stuff that makes you stop and look both ways when you cross the street.

Hm.  I wonder if there's a better or if that one is it...

Actually activities like BMX and skateboarding are notorious for having the worst I juries, but I've never seen anything that bad.  I've subscribed to YouTube channels where all they do is post really hard slams, and I've seen a couple where their arm is like broken in half, but none to the point where the bone is sticking out.

But anyways, over the summer, there was this little kid at the skatepark who didn't know what he was doing and he face planted when he tried to go off a ramp.  His teeth were DESTROYED!  Good thing he was a little kid or else they would not have grown back.

Bu the way, he had a good surgery and he's like out of the hospital already.

I found a still shot that's closer.  Too much work to hunt for a close up video. It looks slightly different than what I was picturing.  Make more sense for how it cracked than what I was picturing in my mind.

The reaction of everyone has an impact.  And not being able to see has an impact.  It's like the trick in movies where you don't see the evil creature and they build the suspense that way.

Something for tall people to worry about.

Actually when they did the first replay I saw everyone's reaction and I burst out laughing.  Like three guys were just laying down on the court and I thought they were the ones that injured themselves.  The bench's reaction was soo funny!  But then they showed a different angle...

Unusual in that it was just out of the blue too. But if it's a tall guy and he's jumping around... everything comes together.

Some of it makes me think we're too isolated from reality, from stuff like that.  Not necessary bad to see either -- What's your reaction?  I'm not doing something like that.  Bunny slope for me, etc.

One of those flying squirrel guys recently got killed doing that I think.  You see the nice edited videos of that and the parkour guys.  They make it look easy and there are enough videos out there... Yeah, I could do that too. Not.  But with the number of "good" polished videos out there and then there are the videos of the people getting injured.... There must also be a lot of videos of people getting more seriously injured.  They're just not posted.  And then there are the events that aren't recorded.

Actually when they did the first replay I saw everyone's reaction and I burst out laughing.  Like three guys were just laying down on the court and I thought they were the ones that injured themselves.  The bench's reaction was soo funny!  But then they showed a different angle...

The reaction of everyone there made me cringe.  And then it's promoted as gruesome... I wanted to see what it was.  It wasn't as awful as I expected.  What they said it what it was -- broken bone sticking out of the leg.  And then there's the dumb stuff -- Oh, there's no bone there now... Look how the rest of the leg doesn't have any support.  He can't just walk off the court like that.  That's what my brain starts saying.  (Duh.)

The guy's got to be tall.  The other thing that pops into my mind is that he's probably pretty healthy.  And that happens to him.  Shhtuff could happen to anyone.

You have to know how to land properly.  Not saying that he didn't, but it's like one of those extremely rare cases where it just happens.  Like spontaneous human combustion!  Except it has to be real.

Aw.  It's the Mario theme from Nintendo.  I wonder if it's out there somewhere else.

No, no.  (Ooooh no no no)  The full version of that Mario voice clip thing above.  The audio cuts out in the video I ran across.

There must be something wrong with your computer.  What was really interesting was this fellow's explanation of rag-time in a clip that showed up at the end.  He played the pachelbel cannon in rag-time rhythm.  This guy knows his stuff.

I already got my dress and make up set up right!
