Probably just to get something back right away.  I heard color ones should be along by Wed.  Still... That was a dip in the excitment last night.  If they came back with a big panoramic red pic of Mars that would have really topped things off.  Instead it was, "Here a grey blob.  That's Mars!"  Still impressive though.

Taking a picture of a rover descent with a satellite on another planet.  Also impressive.

that if you 'mispost' and try to fix it, ie by reporting the post to a mod, pianostreet doesn't let you. kinda funy

from pianostreet:

Not sure if you've seen this one yet, but here's a colored photo that they just got back from Curiosity. It's a bit blurry, but it works.

It'll be interesting for a while and still amazing to think that it's another planet but... It's just going to end up being pictures of a red desert.  I'm sure they'll be more interesting things, like water or telling something about the origin of the solar system, but I wonder how long the views will stay interesting.  Unless they drive out to the Mars Grand Canyon or something.

It would be amusing if they could go over to the other rover that died and fix it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they found life on Mars, that would sure keep people interested. I don't think they'll find animals or anything, but possibly microorganisms. Mars was once like earth with oceans and a somewhat stable atmosphere, so if primitive life such as bacteria formed then, it could still survive under the surface of the planet. I don't see why not.

I can't wait to hear what they find. I think NASA should send something to Jupiter's moon Europa sometime soon. I hear it's likely to contain life also.

My wife and I were discussing difficult languages this evening and your name came up. She is Dutch but yours is even more complicated. I consider myself lucky to get a New York cab driver to take me where I want to go.

Anyway, welcome back! And no I have not heard from Birba. However after the big holiday I think things will pick here on the board. It was this way last year. Everyone was on vacation.

From the most Southwestern corner of the USA it is also very difficult to find time to get on this forum. Watching the Olympics takes a ton of time, it is also summer here and the outside beckons. Everyone wants to sit on the terraces and chat.

We're not going anywhere because just to live here is like a vacation. Every night during the summer we get a fireworks show. If I go outside to watch it I get into conversations and a ten minute show becomes an hour of yacking in the balmy night.

If my math is correct aren't you close to celebrating a "quinceanera"? It is a lovely tradition in many Latin countries. You can look it up on Google. I think that the big birthdays of life need a big celebration. It doesn't need to cost tons of money, like the ones on Google, as long whatever you do will be significant to you.

I'm thinking if we'll even go on vacation or not  :( because it's taking too much time, we have still so many thing to do and besides I'm worried about leaving fish and turtles alone for so long and i wanted my mum to ask some friends or relatives if they could come and check if everything was ok, but my mum doesn't want to because she doesn't want people to go into our apartment and see what a mess we have...  :-\ she says they would notice more that way then if they just come for a visit  :-\ ........ so I don't know, but i don't feel ok leaving them for so long specially because the turtles were biting eachother some time ago and I'm worried what if they started again, and the filter doesn't work so well and in spring one aquarium just started leaking after we cleaned it, and now we cleaned another aquarium a few days ago and I'm really worried... :-\  ::) and I don't know why my mum is making such a big deal about the mess  ::) i mean who cares, it's our apartment we can have a mess if we want (as long as it's not that horrible that it would start bothering other people) I mean we have other more important things to do than to clean our apartment all days!!!!!!! I mean the people who enjoy cleaning their aparments all days can do that that's great, but I sure don't have time for that! I'm not going to spend half of my life cleaning the apartment!  ::) and I mean we should clean it now cause it really is a mess I know but we just didn't have time yet and so now what that's supposed to be more important than the lives of our fish and turles???   ???  >:( no way!!!  >:(

I wonder why those photos from Mars are so blurry and only black and white? I just don't get it. It feels like 45 years ago, with the technology from back then  :P But perhaps I'm just ignorant.

Well maybe that's because Mars doesn't have a magnetic field?  And since all of our technology kinda runs because of that, we have to make cameras differently when we're sending things to space?

I don't know, that's my take on it.

Perhaps one of the differences being that China wants to learn and speak English, while many USers would prefer to speak Bingo B4 they learn how to speak English.

Kind of similar to choreographing a modern dance to "the blood of Jesus never failed me..." which the NDT actually did. Some guy who sounds like this guy trying to sing that phrase over and over.

Ouch....
maybe wouldn't sting as bad if they bill for the standard live performance plus a HEFTY premium for the garbage/hijinks the mangement company tried to pull. the audiences should be the ones giving the them (not the ASO the other twerps) grief, but somehow i think a hot and bothered lonely ladies swooning over these chaps will hardly care enough as I don't exactly think the crowd was drawn to the aso part....still, i'd start a social media campaign against the whole debaucle if i were involved on the aso/musician side.

You'd think someone would have made a Youtube recording....

I'm looking for a excerpt.  Solo cowbell.  The intro to Don't Fear the Reaper.

Solo, fairly clean audio.  It's easy to find spoofs and the original version.  I just want the cowbell  audio by itself.

I'm just not finding it.  I'm disappointed.

Do you know about region restrictions? Sometimes that can mean the difference whether you can get all the features on the DVD. Is blu-ray also restricted?

Yeah I assume the top brands are trying to have some sort of protection to stop copies / etc. just like the region thing. But if its not illegal to make them like the cheap ones..seems sort of pointless.

tbh i've never played a blu-ray on it, i enjoy watching movies from other countries. Went to watch Vitus on the current dvd player at my new premise, will have to go grab my old $25 blu-ray / usb player. Maybe should pop by the rental place.

I am back!  :P We stayed for about 2 days longer than we thought we would!  :P  :)  8) we thought we would go home Friday evening or Saturday morning but we stayed the whole weekend and went home on Monday morning!!!  :P :P it was really cool!  8)
... but when we came back my parents got mail that the inspection is coming again (about water leaking  ::) ) on September 13!  because our neighbour is saying that water is running from everywhere from the kitchen from my room from my parents' room (except that in our apartment everything is dry, no water anywhere)... and then just a few minutes after we came home the crazy neighbour came banging on our door and brought a letter she wrote... and in the letter she said that we were making such a horrible noise all the time and that we're waking her up at 12 am 3 am and 5 am all the time and that first we were making toys in the bigger room where she was sleeping and then she moved to the smaller room (under my room) and then we moved too and now we're making toys (or whatever) in the small room!  ???  ???  ??? and she also wrote that she was ringing the doorbell on Sunday and we didn't want to open even though she knew we were home because we were making such a noise!!!!  :o but we weren't home cause we were on vacation!!!! and then my dad wanted to see where the water was leaking but she wouldn't let him in, she said that it dried up already  :o and before we went on vacation she was saying there was water on her kitchen ceiling and my dad went to see and he couldn't see anything. so yes really fun! she is completely crazy and it's getting worse and worse!!!!!!!

but the vacation was really coool!! 8)

Yuk! What a way to come home from a vacation. Littletune, try to just focus a your great vacation.

Here in the US we have a legal principle that we have the right to quietly enjoy our real property. We can legally require anyone who infringes on that right to stop. And in some cases we can get monetary damages. At the least we can get a temporary restraining order from the judge.

Well, I just finished my last day at work. I was really getting stressed out because I had been working on a project with some C# stuff and I just couldn't get it to work on the company's server while it worked fine on my local server. I finally figured out the problem, right before I was supposed to leave, and I finished it up, and left on a good note.

That felt so good.

Gotta learn how to solve this 5x5x5 Rubik's cube.

So far I have most of the edges down, I have to solve three more, but I can't do it.

Have you developed your own solution to the 3x3 and 4x4? I had to look up the 3x3 cause I'm a failure and give in to defeat very easily, but I worked out the first 2 rows by myself (which is the easy part), and I've also since discovered a couple algorithms. Not sure how useful they are though. I know there's an algorithm where you can switch an edge with the edge across from it, but in the process, you switch the two corners next to the first edge, so you have to do everything an even number of times to get them to go back in their right spot, but I haven't figured it out yet. I have figured out one for switch an edge and the edge next to it, but then two edges across from each other on the opposite face of the cube flip, so, even number of times to flip them back. I've come up with so many algorithms for switching a few different blocks without touching the others, but I have no idea how they're useful.

Long story short, I need to figure stuff out.

Gotta learn how to solve this 5x5x5 Rubik's cube.

So far I have most of the edges down, I have to solve three more, but I can't do it.

If I remember rightly the 5 x 5 must be solved from the inside out..  you get the interior 3 x 3 first, then do the edges in a similar way to you would with a normal 3 x 3 cube..

That said I never actually finished the edges. The thing is a pain.

Well a friend of mine help me solve the centers.  And I do the edges a different way.  When I was stuck, I tried looking on YouTube, and my method is WAY different from what the YouTube tutorials say.  Like, not even within the same proximity!  I'm stuck with the last three edges.  After that, I'm home free!   :D

Ich bin muede.

yo tambien!  haha  :P.  Too many sleepless nights in a row, I don't think I can handle another one.  I've started on one syllabus (which will actually serve two classes and help me with the remaining 6) and I'm already starting to feel borderline a thousand times better ... but I'm slightly stuck, too, and starting to want to stop and be sleepy.

I believe the amount of gravity has increased around me resulting in my inability to move.

My gravity allowed me the luxury of making a dinner salad and then returning straight back to my place with full gravity, to power ahead.

*powers ahead ... sans Red Bull*
