No... let's just clarify something. YOU said that I claimed the beaches were infested with snakes.

I did no such thing. I think you're off your meds... that or you've been drinking again.

Have you been getting into grandpa's hooch again???

So the sharks can come onto the beaches, and the jellyfish stay in the water, and the snakes only like to hide in the snow.

Pappy van Winkle is a very good bourbon whiskey, if you like that sort of thing.  I only drink Kilbeggan, generally.

I've actually had Johnnie Walker Blue label...

sh*t, that stuff goes down easy. There's no burning sensation like you get in all those really cheap whiskies.

One day, I'll build myself a nice bar and stock it with nice drinks and spirits. Till then - a good beer is less than $2 a can here so I'll just enjoy it.

Who'd you have to go down on to drink that?  I was thinking of picking up one of the regular Johnnie Walkers for fun maybe next week, but it definitely won't be JW Blue.

tl,dr follows:

Middle-of-the-road Irish whiskies, like Jameson or Powers Gold, tend to be smooth, because of the traditional triple-distillation process.  However, I think it robs the whiskey of some of its character, although there are still nuances.  Mind you, those two whiskies are pretty good, but not something one would necessarily savor very slowly.  Although the Jameson "caskmates" editions, aged relatively briefly, in terms of years, in used Stout or IPA barrels, are pretty clever.  I no longer think it's necessarily just a marketing gimmick, although it is that as well.

A newcomer to the market, by a firm called Slane, is a bit rough, but somewhat interesting.  I still think Kilbeggan, even in their base product, has the most nuance for a middle-of-the-shelf whiskey.  It's not triple distilled, nor in their core products aged for more than several years, but it's smooth enough to enjoy neat.

As is Tullamore D.E.W., but it's kind of a boring flavor for me.

Yes, I admit that Scotch whisky is appealing, even at the same middle-shelf levels.  The Teacher's Highland Cream is very good for a regular whisky, and I'll be drinking more Scotch eventually to train myself to overcome my dislike of the peated smoke.

Because there are good complex flavors beneath the confounding factor.

No one... I was gifted it from a friend. Sadly enough, it's tainted me as now I almost never drink the Red Label as it tastes like sulfuric acid in comparison.

Pretty nice gift.

Aw, you Scots claim to be so tough, I'm sure you can find something interesting to drink that won't upset your delicate palate.

For example, one of the more famous staples of pubs in Ireland is the humble "Paddy's" whiskey, of which I just bought a bottle today.

It is triple-distilled, so fairly smooth, but it has some aggressive notes of black pepper and a mild caramel finish.  Very drinkable neat.  And distilled in Cork, I believe, where it might be the only major distillery in town.

20 USD per bottle, when I finally found a liquor store that carries more Irish than the one across the street.

I could not believe they want 35 USD for Powers Gold, though:  it's an OK whiskey, maybe the best seller in Ireland, but that's about 10 USD too expensive for that.

No, you don't get to call me a ponce for describing whiskies!  It's just what I think.

You can call me a poofter for enjoying breaking in a new briar pipe, though.  I like pipes, but it is slightly foppish in unconfident hands, I admit.  Not a problem with me, though:  that's just for quelques parvenus fronts peu ridés.

One of these days I'll go up a notch in Scotch whisky with Glenmorangie 10-year, which I've heard is a good choice for a modest but respectable Scotch, but not before I've tried more of the deeper aged Irish whiskies.

And seriously... what is their fascination about Godzilla? I've just seen the latest trailer and I really, REALLY, SERIOUSLY really don't want to watch it.

Probably.  I haven't seen any advertisements about the movie.

But is it as abysmal as this?

That's the penalty for losing the thread!  John Malkovich is watching.  And waiting.

No offense, but I don't think John Malkovich can really do a Russian accent.

It's like listening to second class actors try to impersonate a Scottish or South African accent.

That's crazy talk.  Malkovich speaks French at a near-native level, therefore he is a master of all accents!

All right, I have to know.

I prefer rice to white flour breads and pastas, but I think most cultures where rice is eaten regularly would equate brown rice with eating clay-based kitty litter.

Not that much added fiber, especially if one has a high-fiber diet already.

But, I award some points because it reminds me of this tune:

ZZ Top Groovy Little Hippie Pad

And before you start running your mouth off, p_p, it's becoming less and less common for utubers to allow embedded videos.  And that restriction is easy to implement.

Ah.  So you don't know how to cook a nice basmati rice on the stove.

And you admit it.

That's actually a bold, risky assertion, especially in this pit of vipers.  Grudging respect.

Cooked properly a good white rice is not an undifferentiated mass of soft bland goo, but the grains are distinct, individual pillows of delicate flavor and subtle aroma.  Best achieved using the pilaf method by hand (without added spices or vegetables), not in a machine.

Still, you probably know how to appreciate good quality white, aromatic rice, given your proximity to some of the great rice cultures of the world, such as Antarctica and others.

Depends on what you mean by football... if you mean this:

Then you're god damn right. A bunch of men, groping each other and hugging; they might as well just skip the foreplay and go onto shagging on the field. It's pretty much piggy in the middle, but there's way too many players. They handle the ball, jump on each others shoulders and just chuck it when they can't be bothered handling it anymore.

If you're talking about this though:

Then THAT is the sport of legends. When you take away the ability to touch the ball with your hands, you REALLY make it a sport; a test of skill and dexterity that really shows how well people can control the ball without the use of their hands.

Oh, the sport of falling down at the slightest contact and whining like a toddler to try to squeeze out a "penalty" kick?

Meh, none of the footballs is that good.

But a sport where each team has a player on the arena called the "enforcer" is a little more compelling.

It's no fun if someone doesn't lose some teeth or blood on a regular basis.

So I take it you're also a big fan of boxing - seeing someone get the sh*t knocked out of them as two sadists wail against each other and vent their unresolved aggression?

Yep.  I agree with novelist Margaret Atwood that Western boxing is the purest expression of strategy, skill, strength, and speed that exists in the world of sport.

Strategy? Not sure if that can be lumped in with the others. Speed, Skill and strength - sure... but Strategy?

They're basically just trying to knock each other unconscious. MMA has much more strategy than boxing.

MMA is one step above "grappling" horizontally on a greasy waterbed.  While wearing a *** Borat thong.  Those people are meatheads.  It's like playing tennis without a net.  Or having sex while not wearing a goat-head mask or a leather gimp suit.

You're damned right there's strategy in boxing.  There are rules, you know.  Rounds are decided based on points.  There's a reason competitors dissect and study the matches of their opponents.

Mmmm... not really.

Rule #1: Punch opponent in the head, REPEATEDLY
Rule #2: You are NOT allowed to punch your opponent in the crotch.

Not really a strict regiment of rules... hell, even Handball has more rules than that.

Oh.  I thought that was allowed.  Must have been some other sport I was thinking about.

But biting off chunks of an opponent's ear is still licit, though.

And rabbit punches, as well as donkey punching are still cool.

As is the so-called "dirty sanchez" technique.

That's only because Mike Tyson is STILL to this day... a scary, crazy mother ***.
