You talk a lot.

Sometimes talking too little causes a lack of action.

Roll over and take action, then.

I really don't like him as a player... the emotion of the music should come out of the piano... not his silly facial expressions.

Look at Pollini, Ashkenazy, Horowitz - none of them needed idiotic faces.

I think p_p could make more constructive use of that finger.

Embrace a bias for action.

And, yes, excessive histrionics on the part of a performer should be a cue that the performer would be better suited to studio work.  Cf. Glenn Gould:  he had good sense to keep his antics off the stage, as he became an adult.

Audiences for those sorts of stunts should not be encouraged, but rather corrected concerning their defective judgment.  Eventually the performers will conform to acceptable public displays.

Eventually the performers will conform to acceptable public displays.

Will they though? In a time where social media is everywhere and people are sharing video clips incessantly... it seems people feel they need to have something different - wacky faces are just something that set them apart from the others.

Yes, they get laughed at from others, but to those that don't know better - they probably feel that they're just so 'in tune with the music'.    ::)

Oh, come on, now. Who in the heck names their kid 'Dick Burns'???

I know.  Those defectives must be corrected.  With a firm hand and a visit to a reeducation camp.

They will learn, or they will perish.

Oh, come on, now. Who in the heck names their kid 'Dick Burns'???

Hey.  Don't doxx me!  I like that name!  It's kind of an Homeric epithet.

And, hello?  Robert Burns had a brother.  Richard Burns.

You talking about the Scottish Poet??? I'm pretty sure he didn't have a brother called Richard. He had 3 sisters and two brothers, I think who were William, John and Gilbert (I think).

You think you're so merry and apt.  Say what you will, but no Irish family called their daughters the likes of "Bill," "Jack," nor "Gil."

Not at all.

Now, one doesn't regularly acknowledge Richard Burns, because he brought ignominy and shame to the family name and whatever language he spoke.

But it's just as well, because, entre nous, Dick Burns was a cretin.

Jimmy Burns was buried in a peat field and his remains live on in Islay Scotches to this day.

Do you really have to ask???

In the privacy of your own studio, I don't ask questions!

That does look like a nice bench, though.  Well loved, I'm sure.

Seriously, though, I myself use an ancient wooden chair with a back at home....no, not a Glenn Gould contraption.  It's good enough, but that is a handsome piano bench you've depicted.

No... it is not used in that manner. I'm sure students would complain very quickly if it were used in that manner. I would never sully my studio like that.

Some people don't use the piano bench and instead use jars storing in fear that they might lose something if it's disposed of. Houseful of labelled jars, oh the warm musk of asphyxiation. Just don't delve into coprophagia unless you regulary brush your teeth..... with conc nitric acid.

Not really - he was a racist arsehole who just wanted to wipe out the Jewish people.

Reinach was an incredibly influential architect of present-day methods in formal ontology.

I'm not saying there is a god, much less a pater omnipotens.  Then again, music can roil saboteurs and make crowds frenzied.

Besides, the world could do with a bit of suffering:  many of its inhabitants are crude, corrupt, evil, and should be punished.

Here's proof.

Does an ant look at a human and understand what it is? Can a being stuck in a 3d existence ever understand or prove a multidimensional entity? That difference is many times greater than ant vs human which share the same dimension of reality.

It may not know what exactly it is, but it can see it. It can fear it. It tries to run away from us when we try and squish the little buggers.

You give ants far too much ability to discern what they "see" in us. It is no wonder then why you cannot see that humans are in very much the same position in this universe we live in, we are most likely just like ants.

What's all this hippie talk?  Sounds like Aquinas's analogical theory of being.

Yes, that is one possible ontology.  Among several others, as I'm sure you are aware.

I had better hopes for you, somehow:  maybe a more geometrico Spinozan idea.

But you have put some thought into the matter, therefore you can be saved.

it is beyond our ability to reason. We will blow ourselves up before we can even realize what surface to scratch.

Well, that's a pretty radical stance, and I'm not convinced you believe that, truly.  I'm drawing a blank on exactly what scholastics or early modern theologians held such a view, but I am admittedly not a scholar in this regard.

If you would care to elaborate, I'd be interested, but prima facie this stance raises some very severe problems.

I'd like to know more about this theory.  The linkage problem of word and thing is very well explained, somewhat, by various theories of being, but this leaves no purchase to me except mysticism.

To which, BTW, I'm not unsympathetic.  But I have not encountered a statement as bold among mere fellow travelers, at least among those who seem sincere and coherent, which qualities I ascribe to you.
