He did have a significant role in the final devastation of the North American bison, and he was certainly known to embellish his tales — or at least was content to have his story embellished by others — but a generation of schoolchildren were led by his exploits to discover for themselves the history of the civilization of the Western United States.

Actually, on revision: Jimmi Simpson that midiator has a tiny role in the film, and whatsisface, Crowe, is indeed big and imposing. Kind of a John Goodman type character. Very righteous character.
